Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit National Wildlife Federation -- Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was: Despite the American people's overwhelming support for the Endangered Species Act--86 percent want to maintain or strengthen the law--some members of Congress are attempting to weaken the law. This past September, the House of Representatives passed a bill (H.R. 3824) sponsored by Rep. Richard Pombo (R-Calif.) that would destroy the protections created for wildlife in the Endangered Species Act. To become law, this House bill needs a companion bill to pass the Senate. On Dec. 14, Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) introduced just such a bill (S. 2110). If it passes the Senate, Crapo's bill would then be combined with Pombo's "Wildlife Extinction Bill." Help us stop these attempts to push the Endangered Species Act toward extinction. Call or send the email below to your senators, urging them to stand strong behind this important law. Feel free to write your very own message about why endangered species are important to you. Without the Endangered Species Act, America might not have such treasures as the bald eagle, red wolf, whooping crane or Florida manatee with us today. Tell me more...
