The short explanation of this alert was:
Help stop mercury pollution in Pennsylvania
Each year, power plants in Pennsylvania release nearly 8,000 pounds of mercury into the environment, while technology that could solve the problem sits on the shelf.
This could change soon.
In the coming months, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will issue a rule that limits mercury pollution from power plants, the state's largest source of mercury pollution. The DEP has a plan to require local plants to control 90 percent or more of their mercury pollution, but will need a green light from the state Legislature to implement the rule.
That green light, however, is stuck on yellow. Big energy companies are lobbying your legislators for a much weaker plan. Please act now!
Send the automatic email below, urging your legislators to support strong action from the DEP. Help stop Pennsylvania's plants from dumping toxic mercury pollution into the state's air and water.
