When will the Clean Car Discount Bill be voted on in the California legislature?
The California Clean Car Discount bill fell a few votes shy of a majority when the California State Assembly voted on the bill in June 2007.  The bill will be reconsidered for another vote in 2008.

Why is it important to have volunteers in key legislative districts?
Volunteers in key legislative districts are essential to building the support needed to pass the California Clean Car Discount bill. By showing legislators that their constituents care about solutions to air pollution and global warming, and place a high priority on the Clean Car Discount bill, we can help counteract the money being spent by high-paid lobbyists for the automakers and autodealers. As a constituent, your voice carries weight. The more you can get the word out to friends and family, and organize other community groups, businesses, and local governments to show support for the bill, the better chance we have of passing it!

What are my responsibilities as a Clean Car Captain?
The responsibilities of a Clean Car Captain include trying to get 100 postcards signed and returned to UCS, as well as working with UCS staff to set up and conduct a public presentation in your legislative district on global warming and the Clean Car Discount bill. There may be several Clean Car Captains in one district, in which case we will all work together to set up one great event. Ideally, the presentation would be made to a group that can help influence your legislator. The presentation could be with a church group, a Rotary club, a business association, political group, a university, etc. UCS will provide the speaker and the presentation. Clean Car Captains would help with publicity, co-sponsors, refreshments, etc. Clean Car Captains are also highly encouraged to recruit friends and family to join the campaign as volunteers!

What are my responsibilities as a Clean Car Core member?
The responsibility of a Clean Car Core Member is to commit to getting 25 postcards signed and returned to UCS. Core members are highly encouraged to recruit friends and family to join the campaign as volunteers!
