The California Council of Land Trusts acts as a unified voice for more than 150 land trusts working in local communities throughout California. Together, land trusts share a common vision for protecting the best of California -- natural areas, farmlands, parks, and clean water and air.
Governor Schwarzenegger signed numerous critical land and water conservation bills September 30th, including the volunteer protection and appraisal bills. These and other key measures were huge priorities for the conservation community that would not have happened without your help.
This year, CCLT was proud to be a lead advocate or influential voice on numerous measures that significantly advance land trusts' and their agency partners' conservation missions and assure existing practices. We are very pleased to report on numerous bills which achieve these objectives were signed into law.
While the 2008-2009 budget has been rightly criticized in many quarters, funding for land and water conservation fared reasonably well -- thanks in large part to Proposition 84. Thus, conservationists can continue to deliver the many public benefits of conservation to Californians in the coming year.
In the final hours of the final day of the 2007-2008 regular legislative session, both the Senate and Assembly heard the "volunteerism" bill, AB 2537 (Furutani), on their respective floors and passed it out with strong bipartisan support. The Governor has until September 30th to sign or veto the bill.
Three central valley land trusts were featured on public radio recently sharing the message of conservation and land trusts: San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust, Sequoia Riverlands Trust, and Sierra Foothill Conservancy. Listen to the podcast!
Culminating nearly two years of work and broad input of our members, the CCLT Board of Directors approved Qualifications for Membership in the California Council of Land Trusts.
